Asked and answered, plainly.
Including the ones with uncomfortable answers. If a question you have is not here, ask us and we will add it.
The lock
Can we really not take the money out early?
No, and that is the product. There is exactly one withdrawal path and it belongs to your child, after the unlock date. The only exception is the emergency valve: a majority of the guardians you appointed must agree, a 60-day public notice runs, and any single guardian can veto it.
What if we change our minds next year?
You can stop adding at any time, and you can open a different capsule alongside. What you cannot do is take back what has already been given — which is the promise the child is receiving, and the reason it is worth something.
Can we change the unlock age after sealing?
No. You choose it at creation — 18 by default, anywhere from 16 to 30 — and it is fixed from the moment you seal. A date that can move is a date that will move.
What counts as an emergency?
We deliberately do not define it, because your family knows and we do not. The safeguard is procedural rather than editorial: a majority must agree, everyone can see the request, it takes 60 days, and any one guardian can stop it.
The money
Is this a crypto product? Will my child be “in crypto”?
Your child never touches crypto. There is no trading, no tokens to pick, no app for kids. Your family gives in ordinary money; the capsule holds the asset you chose when you sealed it; your child takes ownership at 18.
The capsule opens with Bitcoin, held on Circle Arc as cirBTC — Circle’s bitcoin on that network rather than coins in a wallet you run yourself. We set out that trade in full on the Bitcoin capsule page.
What if the market is down when they turn 18?
A Bitcoin capsule can go down as well as up, and we would rather say so plainly than bury it. What eighteen years buys you is time, and gifts arriving across nearly two decades at many different prices — the opposite of betting on one moment. Euro and Dollar capsules are coming for families who want steadier.
What does it cost over eighteen years?
For a family giving €600 a year, about €116 in total — no subscription and no yearly fee on the balance. The whole arithmetic is on the pricing page.
Who pays the fee on a gift?
The giver, and only on card gifts: a flat €1.99 shown before they pay. Bank transfers are free. It is never a percentage, so a generous gift is never punished.
The company
What happens if Till18 goes out of business?
Nothing happens to the money. The capsule runs on a public network, your family holds the keys, and the printed recovery kit opens it without our app, our servers or our company. It is the first thing every family rehearses. The full answer is on If we disappear.
Could you be forced to hand over the money?
We could not, because we never hold it. The honest limit is that the issuer of the asset can freeze tokens under a court order — a power that belongs to the issuer, not to us, and one that cannot redirect a capsule to anyone other than your child.
Who is behind Till18?
A small team, based in Europe, funded to build this and nothing else. About has the rest, including what we have not done yet.
The practical parts
What if we lose our phone, our password, everything?
You print a recovery kit at sealing and keep it with the birth certificate: the capsule’s address, plain-language instructions, and a fallback key split three ways among your guardians, of which any two can restore it. Logging back in is an email away; recovering the capsule does not need us at all.
Who can give, and what do they need?
Anyone you send the link to, from any country we serve. A card or a bank transfer and about a minute. No app, no account, no crypto knowledge — and they can write a note your child reads at 18.
Where is Till18 available?
The European Union at launch, and the United Kingdom through its own approved pages. The United States comes later. The full picture, and why, is on availability.
What about taxes?
Gifts to a child are treated differently in every country and we are not your tax adviser. What we do is keep a complete, dated record of every gift and every fee from the first euro, so whoever advises you has real numbers to work from.
Can one child have more than one capsule?
Yes, and plenty will — one per asset. Each has its own gifting link, and every link says which capsule it fills.
Their 18th birthday is already on the calendar.
Setting one up takes ten minutes. We open capsules in small groups so every founding family gets a real conversation.
For parents and guardians (18+). One email to confirm, one when your capsule is ready — nothing else.
iPhone and Android apps arrive with the first capsules. Everything works in a browser on day one.
