What can go wrong, in plain language.

Written to be read rather than to be survived. Everything here also appears in context elsewhere on the site — this page simply puts it all in one place.

Your capsule is an investment, not a deposit

Till18 is not a bank. A capsule balance is not a bank deposit and is not covered by any deposit-guarantee scheme. Its value can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than was put in.

The asset can fall, and the date does not move

A Bitcoin capsule holds a volatile asset. It has lost more than two thirds of its value more than once in its history. Because the capsule opens on a fixed date, nobody, including you, can sell early to avoid a fall, and nobody can delay the opening to wait for a recovery.

Historical figures shown on this site are exactly that: history, computed from year-end closing prices and shown after our fees. They are not forecasts, and past performance is not a guide to future returns.

The issuer of the asset has powers we do not

The assets capsules hold are issued by regulated companies. An issuer can freeze tokens when compelled by a court. That power belongs to the issuer rather than to Till18, it applies to every regulated asset of this kind, and it cannot be used to redirect a capsule to anyone other than the named child.

The network is young

Capsules run on a network that reached production in 2026. New infrastructure carries risks that mature infrastructure does not, including bugs, outages and unforeseen behaviour. The capsule contract includes a tightly constrained migration route requiring near-unanimous guardian approval and a 90-day delay.

The contract has not yet been independently audited

An external security review is underway. Until the report is published, treat the capsule contract as unaudited. We will publish what it finds, including anything unflattering.

Keys can be lost

Your family holds the keys. That is the point, and it is also a responsibility: if you lose your login, your recovery kit and your guardians, nobody can restore your capsule — not us, not anyone. This is why the kit is printed before sealing, why the fallback key is split three ways, and why every family rehearses recovery in the first week.

Money sent on the wrong network is gone

On-chain deposits sent on the wrong network cannot be recovered by anyone. Card and bank transfers are not exposed to this. The full explanation is here.

Early access is deliberately hard

There is no withdrawal before the unlock date. The only exception requires a majority of your appointed guardians to approve, a 60-day public notice, and can be vetoed by any single guardian. If your family may need this money before your child turns eighteen, a capsule is the wrong product.

Tax is your responsibility

Gifts to a child are treated differently in every country, and treatment can change during the eighteen years a capsule is sealed. Nothing on this site is tax, legal, financial or investment advice. We provide complete dated records; you and your adviser decide what they mean.

Till18 is a young company

We may not exist in eighteen years. The capsule is designed for that outcome — keys held by your family, a printed recovery route, no dependency on our servers — but our disappearance would still cost you the app, the support and the conveniences. What survives, and what does not.

This page describes the product honestly and is not a substitute for the terms and conditions, which govern your relationship with Till18. It is reviewed whenever the product changes; material changes are dated in the changelog.
